Dart Frogs are a terrestrial species native to the tropical rainforest of Central and South America. These frogs can get up to 0.5-2.5 inches depending upon the dart frog species. Due to their size they wont require a large enclosure but still a decent size. Dart Frogs can live 10-15+ years with some getting up to 20 years making them a big commitment pet. These frogs can make great pets but just like any amphibian, they are going to be a “look-but-don’t-touch” type of pet. Frogs in general tend to dislike handling and will try to get away if possible. Frogs and toads have sensitive skin and when being handled, the oils on our hands are actually harmful to them. Poison dart frogs are not poisonous in captivity. It is the insects they consume in the wild like fire ants which creates their toxin.
