Nile monitors are primarily terrestrial as adults native to Africa that can get 5-7’ (Males being larger). Due to their size and active nature they will need a large enclosure. Nile monitors can live 15-20+ years making them a big commitment pet. These lizards are for the experienced keeper as they are widely considered one of the most aggressive, temperamental, and challenging of all monitor lizards. They are capable of inflicting moderate to severe lacerations from scratching and biting, and adults can lash with their tail like a heavy whip. They are highly opportunistic and aggressive eaters. If not properly managed, their intense food drive can lead to accidental bites during feeding times.
