Elongated tortoises are a land species that can get 12-14” native to Southeast Asia. They will need a large enclosure due to their size and active nature. Elongated tortoises can live 40-60+ years making them a big commitment pet. Just like any turtle or tortoise, they are not big fans of being picked up and are actually very scared of heights. Frequent handling, loud noises, or sudden environmental changes can cause stress and be easily frightened. Elongated tortoises are naturally shy, calm, and secretive. Because they stress easily from excessive handling and bright lights, they require enclosures with plenty of foliage, cork bark, and hides to feel secure.
