Marginated tortoises are a land species that can get 10-14” native to the Mediterranean region. They will need a large enclosure due to their size and active nature. Marginated tortoises can live 70-100 years making them a big commitment pet. Just like any turtle or tortoise, they are not big fans of being picked up and are actually very scared of heights. Frequent handling, loud noises, or sudden environmental changes can cause stress and be easily frightened. Marginated tortoises make great pets as they are generally friendly, gentle, and highly responsive to their owners, often following them around or coming up to the glass when they want attention.
