Brazilian rainbow boas are a semi-arboreal species that can get up to 4-6ft, native to the Amazon River Basin of Brazil and the adjacent countries to the north. These snakes require a large enclosure with provided structures suitable to hold a larger arboreal boa when they choose to climb. While these snakes are not strictly tree-dwelling, they are active climbers and enjoy elevated spots. Brazilians can live up to 30 years making them a big commitment pet. These snakes are best suited for people who have had some experience keeping similar snakes due to their size and timid nature. While they are often shy and nippy as babies due to a high defense instinct, they typically tame quickly with regular handling and mature into gentle snakes.
They are known for being curious, active, and having a strong feeding response as well as having a docile and calm temperament when properly worked with. Brazilian Rainbow Boas are a popular pet snake, partly because of their docile nature but also because of their gorgeous patterns and colors.
